Young Women in Public Affairs Award by Zonta International in Zonta Region

Young Women in Public Affairs Award by Zonta International is presently open.It offers the Young Women in Public Affairs (YWPA) Award, which distinguishes young women, ages 16-19, for showing leadership skills and dedication to public service and civic causes, and emboldens them to continue their contribution in public and political life.

Created in 1990 by Past International President Leneen Forde, Zonta has granted 971 awards, US$1,109,250, to 819 young women from 58 nations.

The program envisages a universe in which women’s rights are acknowledged as human rights and every woman is able to attain her full potential. In such a world, women have opportunity to all resources and are represented in decision making positions on an equal basis with men. In such a universe, no woman lives in fear of violence.

Young Women in Public Affairs Award by Zonta International Application Deadline: Applications must be finalized and presented to Zonta clubs based on the club’s assigned deadline. A club beneficiary is nominated, and the application is taken to the governor/regional representative by 1 April. The district/region beneficiary is nominated, and the application is taken to Zonta International Headquarters by 1 May. The 2024 beneficiaries will be declared by 1 July.

Benefits of Young Women in Public Affairs Award by Zonta International

The program runs at the Zonta club, district/region and international levels. District beneficiaries get US$1,000, and 10 international beneficiaries are nominated from the district/region beneficiaries to get awards of US$4,000 each.

Eligibility for Young Women in Public Affairs Award by Zonta International

Women, ages 16-19 on 1 April each year, residing in a Zonta district/region, or a citizen, who shows evidence of the following, are qualified to apply for Young Women in Public Affairs Award by Zonta International.

  • Active dedication to volunteerism.
  • Understanding in local government, student government, or workplace leadership (paid or unpaid).
  • Volunteer leadership achievements.
  • Understanding of Zonta International and its programs.
  • Support in Zonta International’s mission of enabling women all over the world world through service and advocacy.

Prospective participants from geographic zones within a Zonta district where no clubs are situated will be considered and qualified to apply for the district/region Award. Z and Golden Z club members are also qualified to apply. Classified members and employees of Zonta International and Zonta International Foundation, and their family members, are not qualified to apply for the Awards.

How to Apply for Young Women in Public Affairs Award by Zonta International

Complete an official application in English. All non-English documents must be translated into English. The documents below are to be submitted in the application package.

Requirements for Application

  • Official application completed (can be downloaded from the Zonta International website, www.zonta.org).
  • Verification of present enrollment by school/institute official
  • Two confidential recommendations from adults, not related to the candidate, such as teachers, school officials/employee supervisors or
    community leaders.
    Supporting documentation not requested will not be considered. All applications and supporting details become the property of the program. The program has ultimate authority over any facet of the Awards.

Every application materials must be collected at a Zonta club by the printed deadline. Zonta clubs pick one application to send to the district governor/region representative. A (team) committee evaluates the applications and decides on one applicant per district/region to submit to Zonta International Headquarters. The Zonta International YWPA Committee endorses 10 foreign beneficiaries from the district/region applications to the Zonta International Board. The 2024 beneficiaries will be declared by 1 July 2024.
