Admission Points Score (APS)
The applicant must achieve a minimal APS in order to be accepted into the institution. However, this is not the same as the programmed specific requirement. During the admissions selection process, the applicant with the highest APS will be given more consideration.

The Admission Points Score is normally computed by adding the points for an applicant’s best six subjects from his or her results. Life Orientation, on the other hand, is frequently left out of the equation.
Admission Requirements For Higher Certificate In Auxiliary Nursing
The following requirements must be met in order to obtain a Higher Certificate in Auxiliary Nursing.
- Passing the National Senior Certificate is validated with admission to higher education by UMALUSI (higher certificate, diploma, or degree)
- English as a Home Language or First Additional Language (English being the language of learning and teaching (LOLT) at Ukwazi School of Nursing): 40% or more (NSC Level 3)
- Life Sciences/Biology, which is a compulsory subject, must receive 50% or higher (NSC Level 4).
- A score of at least 16 points on the scoring scale outlined above in the applicant’s best six subjects, excluding Life Orientation, as obtained in the National Senior Certificate (therefore APS=16).
It should be noted, however, that an applicant with no Life Sciences/Biology in matric or a mark below the NSC4 minimal achievement level can still be considered for eligibility.
The applicant just needs to complete the school’s bridging course, which is now known as the Assistant Course, by having completed it satisfactorily.
- A score of at least 75% is required.
- A minimum of 50% in the Anatomy and Physiology Modules is required.
Admission Requirements For Diploma in Nursing (Staff Nurse)
The following criteria must be met in order to be admitted to the Diploma of Nursing Science Program with a National Senior Certificate.
- Passing the National Senior Certificate is endorsed with admission to higher education by UMALUSI (diploma or degree)
- English as a Home Language or First Additional Language (English being the language of learning and teaching (LOLT) at Ukwazi School of Nursing): 40% or more (NSC Level 3)
- 60 percent or above (NSC Level 5) in the obligatory subject of Life Sciences/Biology
- A score of at least 19 points on the above scoring scale in the applicant’s best 6 subjects, omitting Life Orientation, as obtained in the National Senior Certificate (therefore APS=19).
It should be noted, however, that an applicant with no Life Sciences/Biology in matric or a mark below the NSC5 minimal accomplishment level can still be considered for eligibility.
The applicant just needs to complete the school’s bridge course with a passing grade.
- A score of at least 80% is required.
- A minimum of 60% in the Anatomy and Physiology Modules is required.
