Stuart Baxter Early life
Stuart Baxter was born on August 16, 1953, in Wolverhampton, Staffordshire, England. Bill Baxter, his Scottish father, was a professional footballer who played for Wolverhampton Wanderers and then Aston Villa. Stuart grew up in England, where his father was a coach at Aston Villa, before moving to Scotland, where Bill worked as a manager at East Fife and Raith Rovers.
Stuart attended Buckhaven High School in Fife during this time.
Baxter is variously labeled as English, Scottish, or an Anglo-Scot in the media as a result of his upbringing; he has commented on his identification, saying, “If I’m considered for a position in Scotland, they call me a Scot.”
When I apply for a job in England, they refer to me as an Englishman. “I identify as a European.” He’s also called himself a “mongrel” who’s “happy to be British, even if I feel more European.”
Stuart Baxter Playing Career
In 1973, Baxter made his professional debut with Preston North End. In October 1975, he joined Scottish club Dundee United, but was released the following month after only appearing for the reserve squad. After that, he joined Stockport County in England. Baxter later played for South Melbourne FC, Helsingborgs IF, and San Diego Sockers in Australia, Sweden, and the United States, respectively. In 1983, his playing career came to an end.
Baxter was called up to train with the Australian national team while playing for South Melbourne, and he represented Australia in unofficial matches against a Queensland XI and Partizan Belgrade in 1979. When the match against New Zealand was classified as an official international, he had to be withdrew from the squad due to his lack of Australian citizenship.

Baxter returned to Scandinavia to start his coaching career, working with the youth team of rebro SK. In 1986, he was named manager of IF Skarp, a tiny Norwegian club. He moved up to a bigger managerial position with Vitória de Setbal in Portugal the following year, before returning to Sweden for a three-year term with Halmstads BK between 1988 and 1991.
He led Halmstad to promotion to the Allsvenskan in his first season, but the team was relegated at the end of his stay. In 1992 and 1994, Baxter traveled to Japan to coach Sanfrecce Hiroshima, and subsequently Vissel Kobe in 1997.He took over as manager of Kobe only days after an earthquake caused devastation in the city and spent two weeks living in a makeshift caravan in the club car park.

Baxter was named the new manager of South African club Kaizer Chiefs on May 7, 2012. In June of 2012, he began his duties. Amakhosi won the 2012–13 Premier Soccer League and the Nedbank Cup in his first season in charge, finishing first in the league and defeating Supersport United 1–0.
Despite occupying the top place in the league for the bulk of the season, the Soweto based side failed to win a trophy during the 2013–14 South African Premier Division season.
After recovering the PSL league title from Sundowns, Baxter achieved his second league and cup double with Kaizer Chiefs that season.
Stuart Baxter left Kaizer Chiefs on June 2, 2015, but returned in June 2021.
Stuart Baxter South African national team
Baxter was re-appointed as South Africa coach on 4 May 2017, succeeding Ephraim ‘Shakes’ Mashaba, who was fired in December 2016. Bafana Bafana qualified for the 2019 AFCON tournament under his leadership, defeating tournament favorites and hosts Egypt in the round of 16, before being eliminated by Nigeria. In August of that year and, he resigned.
Stuart Baxter, Odisha FC
Baxter was named the head coach of Odisha FC in the Indian Super League on a two-year contract on June 19, 2020. He was fired in February 2021 after moaning about the refereeing in a loss during a post-match interview, claiming that his players “would have to rape someone or get raped himself if he was going to earn a penalty.”

Baxter returned to Kaizer Chiefs as head coach for a second time in June 2021.
He led Kaizer Chiefs in their first Champions League Final, which they lost 3–0 against Al Ahly on July 17, 2021.
