Young Lions
Hariss began his career in the S.League with Young Lions in 2007. In 2007, at the age of 16 years, 3 months, and 18 days, he became the youngest player in the S-League. Hariss had received special permission from the Singapore Football Association to play despite a regulation that only permitted players aged 18 and up to do so.
He won Singapore’s ‘Who’s The Next’ contest in August 2007 and was offered a training position at FC Barcelona’s prestigious La Masia facility. For a week, he and 13 other youngsters from six Asia Pacific nations, including South Korea and Japan, trained at the Catalans’ junior program. In three friendly games against FC Barcelona’s youth program, he led the team.

Following Hariss’ choice not to join Rio Ave, Johor Darul Ta’zim of the Malaysia Super League promptly confirmed his signing in November 2013 on a two-year deal for over US$20,000 (S$25,000) per month. Hariss scored his first competitive goal for the club four days later against Selangor in a Super League encounter. Hariss helped Johor win their first Malaysian Super League title in his debut season.

International career
Youth
Hariss has been capped at all youth levels with the Singapore national football team. He was part of the Singapore national under-23 football team that won the bronze medal at the 2007, 2009 and 2013 Southeast Asian Games.
Senior
Hariss was discovered by then-national team coach Raddy Avramovic, who handed him his international debut as a 70th-minute replacement in a friendly against North Korea on June 24, 2007.
At the age of 16 years and 217 days, he is the youngest player to play for the Singapore national team, beating the previous record set by Singapore great Fandi Ahmad, who debuted at the age of 17 years, 3 months, and 23 days. In a 2012 interview with the Straits Times, Avramovic described Hariss as a “outstanding player.”
Hariss was named for the 2012 ASEAN Football Championship by Singapore. After sustaining a shin fracture in a group stage loss to Indonesia, he was ruled out for the remainder of the tournament, which Singapore won. Due to injuries, he was unable to compete in the 2008 and 2010 rounds of the tournament.
On June 7, 2013, Hariss scored his first senior international goal in the 27th minute of a friendly against Laos.
