Fagrie Lakay Career

He was born in the town of Manenberg. Lakay began playing soccer for Real Stars, a team that belonged to his father and was owned by him. Later, he noticed an advertisement for the Santos trials, and his father accompanied him to the location. Lakay made his Santos debut in the National First Division on October 20, 2012, against FC Cape Town.

He has played in the league ever since. As Santos drew the match 0–0, he started and played the first half of the game. He subsequently scored his first professional goal on 5 February 2014 against Maluti FET College, a goal that gave Santos a 2–0 lead in the 39th minute and put them ahead of the game. FET College, on the other hand, rallied back to tie the game 2–2.

Fagrie Lakay International Career

Lakay has represented South Africa at both the under-17 and under-20 levels in international competition.

Before South Africa’s World Cup qualifier against Nigeria in Cape Town, Lakay scored in a training session for Santos against the senior national team’s periphery players, defeating under-20 teammate Dumisani Msibi in goal from 40 meters out.

On 30 November 2014, he made his senior international debut for South Africa against the Ivory Coast in a friendly match. As South Africa defeated Zimbabwe 2–0, he came on as a 75th-minute substitute for Themba Zwane. Lakay, who is 17 years, 5 months, and 30 days old, became the youngest player to ever wear the national jersey, breaking the previous record held by Rivaldo Coetzee, who was 17 years, 11 months, and 25 days old when he made his debut. In addition, Coetzee shattered a long-standing record set by former Bafana captain Aaron Mokoena, who was 18 years, two months, and twenty-six days old at the time of the match against Botswana in 1999.
